Thus, Van Gogh wrote on Saturday 8 September 1888 in a letter to his brother Theo about a print he didn’t possess, but greatly appreciated. The woodblock print in question was ‘The Great Wave of Kanagawa‘ of the Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai.
