Ezekiel Elliott's six-game suspension upheld after appeal, Cowboys RB eligible to play Week 1
An NFL appeals officer rejected Ezekiel Elliott’s appeal on Tuesday and upheld the six-game suspension for the Dallas Cowboys running back.
Despite the ruling, Elliott is eligible to play in the Cowboys' regular-season opener against the New York Giants on Sunday, a person familiar with the situation told USA TODAY Sports.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity because no update regarding Elliott's status had been officially announced by the league.
A longer legal battle looks to be ahead after the NFL Players' Association filed a request with the U.S.
District Court for the Eastern District of Texas to vacate the arbitration decision before it was made. The union also sought a temporary restraining order against any ruling that would subject Elliott to a suspension. The NFL filed a motion to dismiss.
